Residues of Inner Images

Just as we sometimes recognize the importance of something only after losing it, there may be things that are, paradoxically, illuminated by the absence of someone dear to us. Tano’s paintings take shape as he transforms the lingering impressions woven through human encounters into an inward light, reminiscent of sunlight filtering through leaves, and fixes it on the canvas.

When music is played on high-quality equipment, we can distinguish the sound of each instrument while still hearing the harmony of the whole. A similar clarity can be found in his paintings. To preserve the freshness of color, as though the painting had only just begun, while allowing the viewer to perceive it as light, he pays meticulous attention to the path of each brushstroke. These same brushstrokes also sustain the complex composition.
